Ben Tre is one of the thirteen provinces located in the Mekong Delta Region, with natural area of 2,322 square kilometers and 65km bordering the South China Sea. Ben Tre includes 01 City and 8 districts with 164 of communes, wards and towns. Numbers of population in 2009 are 1,4 million persons, in which, male population accounts for 51.5%. Numbers in the age of working is approximately 64%, and trained labors force is 36%. Annual average income per capita is US$722.
This year of 2008, around 30,000 workers were trained and provided jobs. Economic growth rate was 9.47% in 2008. Fishery economy and garden based economy are the two contributors of Ben Tre. The export value has reached US$ 184 million in 2008. Main products exported are from seafood, garments, coconut-based products and other agri-products.
Ben Tre is on the way of development, both infrastructure and economy. The longest bridge of the province, Rach Mieu, has openned and surely will open new opportunities for Ben Tre to develop, particularly in investment attraction. The Ham Luong bridge is also under construction and it will be finished at the start of 2010. Visitors can reach Tra Vinh province via Ben Tre, shorter than comparing with the going along the National Road 1.
